Biofuels, Biogas and Biomethane

We help owners turn oils, residues and waste into fuel. Biodiesel, second-generation ethanol, biogas, bio-CNG and biomethane, from technology choice to a working plant.

Our experience

How we work in this field

Biofuel projects succeed or fail on feedstock. We start with what is available, how much, how steady the supply is and what it costs at the gate. Only then do we size the plant and choose the technology.

Through PT Conserve Energy Indonesia we advise biodiesel (FAME) projects in Indonesia and Malaysia. We have compared FAME technology from BDI, JJ-Lurgi, Desmet, Myande and Crown. For biodiesel we work across the whole complex: crude oils and fats, used cooking oil, tallow, palm stearin and acid oils go through pre-treatment, esterification and transesterification. The by-products matter too, from pharma-grade glycerin to distilled fatty acid esters and fatty alcohols.

On ethanol, our founder is a Director of Enernol Bioindustry in India, which is incubating second-generation ethanol and biogas projects. We have compared cellulosic ethanol technology from Axens (Futurol), GranBio, Praj, Novozymes and VLand.

On biogas, we have done FEED and optimisation for biogas from palm oil mill effluent (POME) and empty fruit bunches (EFB), and taken bio-CNG plants to a bankable DPR. Our founder also ran a Belgian yarn plant powered by a three-digester, 2 MWe biogas plant. In Victoria we are preparing the feasibility study and DPR for a biomethane plant at a dairy processing site.

Services

What we do

Feedstock assessment

Quantity, quality, seasonality and cost of the feedstock, checked on site where it matters.

Biodiesel complexes

Pre-treatment, esterification, transesterification, glycerin refining and ester distillation, planned as one complex.

Technology selection

Side-by-side comparison of licensors and equipment suppliers on yield, cost and track record.

Feasibility and DPRs

Detailed project reports and bank-grade financial models that lenders and boards can test.

Biogas and biomethane

Digester and upgrading design for POME, EFB, dairy and food waste, through to grid gas or bio-CNG.

Owner's engineering

Tender review, contractor selection, construction supervision and commissioning support.

Questions

Common questions

What is the difference between biogas and biomethane?

Biogas comes straight from a digester and is roughly half methane. Biomethane is biogas cleaned and upgraded to natural-gas quality, so it can go into a gas grid or be compressed as bio-CNG.

Can you prepare a bankable feasibility study?

Yes. We prepare detailed project reports and financial models built to be checked by lenders and their technical advisers.
