Energy and Renewables
We work on power plants, grids, ammonia, green hydrogen and solar, on the owner's side. Our team has delivered national-scale power and a world-class ammonia plant, and knows the solar factory floor.
Our experience
How we work in this field
In Timor-Leste our founder was resident Project and Technology Director for the Hera (120 MWe) and Betano (137 MWe) power plants, built as EPCC, with the national high-voltage grid, substations and dispatch centre. Hera fed power into a new grid nine months from start. He also helped the Government develop its national energy policy, wrote the operating manuals and trained 35 local engineers.
He was Vice President (Projects) on the USD 850 million Panca Amara Utama ammonia complex at Luwuk, Sulawesi, a joint venture of Mitsubishi Corporation and PT ESSA, financed by IFC and licensed by KBR. He held the owner's procurement authority and closed the equipment package more than USD 28 million under budget. The plant runs at 112% of rated capacity with 97% availability.
Our solar work goes back to 2008, when our founder presented polymer connections to solar PV, including thin films, reflectors and concentrators, to investors as Technology Advisor to Oerlikon. See the 2008 presentation and its 2026 edition.
As Technology Advisor at OC Oerlikon he worked on thin-film solar PV fabrication plants for clients in China and Taiwan. Oerlikon later sold its solar division to Tokyo Electron, where it became TEL Solar. More recently he costed a TOPCon solar module line with an upgrade path to perovskite tandem cells.
On green hydrogen and ammonia, we have benchmarked more than 15 electrolyser suppliers across PEM, alkaline, SOEC and AEM, and carried out pre-FEED for green ammonia in Sri Lanka with solar, wind and hydro power firming, and in the USA. We have also run FEED across several CO₂ capture technologies.
We also develop our own renewable energy technology. Our main field programme is on bifacial solar farms: raising the light the ground reflects to the rear of the panels, so each panel produces more. Our longer-term moonshot is hydrogen storage at scale. Both have Australian patent applications filed, so we describe the aims here, not the methods. Field trial data is logged on our platform, webdoli.com.

Services
What we do
Power plants and grids
Owner-side engineering for utility power plants, high-voltage grids, substations and dispatch.
Ammonia and fertiliser
Licensor selection, basic engineering review, owner procurement and delivery for ammonia and fertiliser plants.
Green hydrogen
Electrolyser benchmarking, plant layout, power firming and storage questions for hydrogen projects.
Green ammonia and e-methanol
Concept, pre-FEED and FEED studies, mass and energy balances, and optimisation of the process train.
Solar PV
Utility, rooftop and factory projects: design review, module line costing, inspection and performance testing.
Bifacial solar yield
Raising ground reflectance under bifacial PV farms, with field trials and logged data to prove the gain.

Questions
Common questions
What does an owner's engineer do on a power, hydrogen or ammonia project?
We represent the project owner. We check the design, run or review procurement, watch the build and test the plant before handover, so the owner gets what was agreed and lenders see it was done right.
Do you only work in Australia?
No. We are based in Melbourne and work in Indonesia and India, with project experience in Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Europe, China and the USA.
