Polymers and Materials Engineering

Polymers are where Namindo began. Our founder has built, run and invented in polymer plants since 1988, from PTA and PET to nylon, elastane and fibre lines.

Our experience

How we work in this field

Our founder trained as a polymer engineer, with a B.Tech in Polymeric Fibres and Process Technologies, and began as a process engineer in polymer plants in Punjab, India, at JCT Fibers and Reliance Petrochemicals.

At Indorama Synthetics in Indonesia he grew the domestic polymer fibre business from under USD 10 million to about USD 130 million a year, and worked on PLA and PHA biodegradable fibres. At Texmaco and Polysindo he set up a USD 120 million greenfield PET plant and was on the team that moved the ICI PTA plant from the USA to Karawang.

He then spent seven years as Technology Advisor with Oerlikon Barmag and OC Oerlikon in Germany, Switzerland and China. Barmag is a leading maker of man-made fibre spinning systems, and in 2026 it became part of Rieter of Switzerland. He handled projects and bids worth more than USD 3 billion, including a USD 350 million polymer complex for PetroVietnam and Vinatex, and helped transfer production technology to the Suzhou plant in China. That work produced 12 world patents in polymer process technology. Two more global patents came earlier, jointly with DuPont and Barmag.

He has also run a polyurethane elastane plant in Italy and an 80 tonne a day BCF yarn plant in Belgium, and taken research with Fraunhofer, RWTH Aachen, JENOPTIK and EREMA from the lab to production.

Most process problems end up as materials problems. He serves on the steering committee of Stainless Steel World Asia and gave the 2026 keynote in Singapore on materials for the biofuel transition.

Services

What we do

Polymer plants

PTA, PET, solid-state polymerisation, nylon, polyurethane and acrylic plants: technology selection, procurement, commissioning and troubleshooting.

Fibre, yarn and film lines

Process design and debottlenecking for melt spinning, BCF and elastane yarn, extrusion and compounding.

Plant relocation and transfer

Moving a plant or a production technology from one country to another, from survey to restart.

Materials selection

Choosing stainless steels, alloys, polymers and linings for corrosive, hot or high-pressure service, with the reasons written down.

Materials for new energy

Compatibility checks for hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and biofuel service, where older material rules often do not hold.

Bio-polymers and R&D

PLA, PHA and other bio-based polymers, and taking new process ideas from lab trials to production.

Questions

Common questions

Which polymer plants have you worked on?

PTA, PET and PET solid-state polymerisation, nylon, polyurethane elastane, BCF yarn and acrylic fibre plants, from procurement and construction to commissioning and operation.

Can you help choose materials for hydrogen, ammonia or biofuel service?

Yes. We check stainless steels, alloys, polymers and seals against the actual pressure, temperature and chemistry of the service, and we write down why each choice was made.
